五月天’s most recent album, 為愛而生, is, like all of their albums, quite good. I’m a pretty big fan of their Chinese rock sound. 五月天’s music seems to pretty unique within the Chinese music scene, but this might be because I don’t have too much experience with Chinese rock, nor am I aware of its existence outside of 五月天. Anyway, they’re pretty awesome, with some songs that I absolutely love. Unfortunately, none of those are on this album, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of their better albums on the whole. The overall quality is a better than, say, 愛情萬歲, but none of the songs really compares to the likes of 溫柔. Anyway, onto the music.

The titular song, 為愛而生 is probably the best song on the album, with some nice guitar riffs and a catchy chorus. I guess this is characteristic of most of their songs, but 為愛而生 is a bit more memorable with its riffs and chorus. 天使 is also pretty good, more in the vein of the slow ballads than the more rock-ish sounding songs. To be honest, I’ve been having lots of trouble deciding whether I like their ballads more or their rock. It’s a pretty hard choice, as both are really quite good. And, as I sit here listening to the album for the umpteenth time, I’m realizing that not a single song on this album is bad, or even remotely average. If I want to listen to an entire 五月天 album, this is the one I’d go for first. If I just want a quick fix, I probably wouldn’t single out any of the songs on this album, but overall it’s definitely their best.
