Nicky Lee is quite possibly the most “soulful” of all the Mandarin singers out there - I just can’t come up with a better description of his style. Sure, his pronunciation is a bit off, and it sounds odd at times, but hey, he tries, and credit should be given where credit is due! So here he comes with his fourth Chinese album - 不,完美, or Imperfect.
The title song of the album and of the same name (不,完美) is pretty similar to the title song of of his last album, Think Too Much. And like that song, it has a bunch of Korean speech in the start of the music video, which seems out of place on a Chinese song. (Don’t get me wrong, I like it all the same, simplicity is good…
The first track, 蒼天 or The Heavens, is about the Three Kingdoms period. It is here that I have to rant - why does every single male Chinese singer have to have a song about the Three Kingdoms Period? Aren’t there enough songs about it already? It’s enough to make Zhuge Liang’s head turn. A bit bland of a song, but ok. 別說 - Don’t Say is a song in the vein of Imperfect.
That’s the reason this isn’t a full-blown review of the album. Nicky Lee is indeed very talented, and he’s a joy to listen to, but I think that many of his songs on this album sound the same.

You were saying that Nicky Lee is the most soulful
julisensei | September 5, 2008You were saying that Nicky Lee is the most soulful Mandarin singer out there. Just curious, but have you heard Khalil Fong? I know that Khalil Fong is planning to release his newest (4th) album sometime in September. If you haven’t heard him before, please check him out.
) His three albums plus concert album are all good, you can just play them through the entire day, all easy on the ears. I’d be interested to hear what you would say about him.
Ah yes, you're referring to 方大同? I haven't heard too
