About
We like Asian music of all kinds - Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and more - and we like sharing what we think of the music with others. We also like keeping ourselves up-to-date with what’s going on with Asian music, and what’s new and what’s hot (and occasionally, what’s not).
In short, azn.play is the website we were looking for, but since we couldn’t find a good website that covered Asian music, we decided to start one ourselves. For example, have you tried looking for Chinese and Japanese album art online? It’s often a nightmare, the same goes with trying to find a place to listen to try and decide before you buy.
Because most of what’s written about Asian music isn’t understood by much of the Western world, we write primarily in English so more of you guys can understand and take part in the brilliance of Asian music.
Contributors
azn.play was founded as azn.music in August 2007 by illuminance (posts as admin), who was especially sick of trying to find a good source and commentary of Asian music, so he decided to start one himself. At first, it was started on WordPress.com, but it was moved to its own domain in June 2008 and reborn as azn.play.
Since then, several others have joined, and we now have a team of six contributors and growing:
illuminance
Hailing from Malaysia and full of Malaysian pride, illuminance started the site back in August 2007, first as a side hobby, then as a hobby, and finally now as a devoted interest. He plays the yangqin (Chinese dulcimer), speaks Chinese and is learning Japanese, and likes travel, graphic design, KTVing, and sleep (in no particular order).
sky
From the Lion City (Singapore), sky can often be found salivating over the most recent K-Pop releases. A stellar student and worker, he’s only on part of the year since he’s often away at boarding school.
thevantagepoint
Legit Hong Kong girl with perfect score on the IB. ‘Enuff said. thevantagepoint has an obsession with everything Korean and Japanese.
moopie
Actually a New Yorker, moopie is widely noted for being a “sappy sentimentalist.” What exactly that is, we don’t know yet. He actually used 童話 as his ringtone for three years.
ashih
Self-proclaimed as Jay Chou’s number one fan, ashih spends his time routinely looking for Jay Chou’s next tour stop and devising ways to actually go and support President Chou.
blummer
Our newest contributor, blummer is fluent in Japanese, and keep an eye out for his unique and bombastic style of writing.
Disclaimer
We here at azn.play love Asian music and the artists that create it very much, and that’s why we started this website, simply out of love, not to earn anything from it. We buy lots of records and CDs of the artists we love, and we were frustrated to not find a way to listen to it before we buy, à la iTunes or KKBOX. We are similiar then, to the completely legit Google Music in China, and since moving to our new server, we don’t provide any download links whatsoever. We’re against music piracy, and we want everyone to buy the records of those they love - it supports those great artists that we love to listen to so much. So use those buy links! If you’re a copyright holder who wants something removed, please let us know and we’ll remove it ASAP. Thanks!
