Following with the sudden flood of new Chinese albums,  Singaporean artist JJ Lin (林俊傑) has released his sixth studio album - Sixology, or 陸 (which is 六 written in longhand for financial/fancy matters). Where 殺手 “The Killa” was disturbing and grotesque, Sixology appears folksy and charming - I love this album truly.

When I first heard of 原來我不帥, starring JJ Lin - I thought, that actually makes sense. In an age where many people become famous music artists simply because they look good (both in the East and West), JJ Lin actually stands out as one of the not-so-good looking ones. (Some say Jay Chou as well) However, his musical talent is unquestioned, and as I have made clear in other blog posts around here, I think that looks should never be a limiting factor in determining someone’s talent.

So the OST to this TV series has one new song by JJ himself -  期待你的愛, and some other songs by Nicky Lee, Hu Ling, and Kym. An interesting playlist.

For nearly a decade now, David Tao (陶喆), Jay Chou (周杰倫), and Leehom Wang (王力宏), the three “Pop princes,” have, without question dominated the Taiwanese and Chinese musical scenes. But with David Tao hinting at retirement, it remains to be seen who will fill the space left by the creator of such songs as 愛, 很簡單 (Love is very easy), 就是愛你 (It’s loving you), and 愛我還是他 (Who do you Love?). Side note: I cannot believe that so many of David Tao’s songs have the word for love, “愛” in them. In my opinion, JJ Lin is on the verge of taking over that position.

Recently released, this song was sung by JJ Lin (林俊傑) for a S-POP (Singaporean pop) contest. In reality, which is S-Pop? I don’t think such a thing can exist. Even though we have many talented Malaysian singers who sing in Chinese (Gary Cao, Guang Liang, Fish Leong, Nicholas Teo, among many others), we don’t call it M-Pop… Perhaps I’m an advocate of C-Pop without borders - without discriminating as to which country it’s from.

Other than that, I can’t say there is anything blisteringly special about the song. Listen and see for yourself!

Someone - forgot who, but someone told me that 林俊傑/JJ Lin’s newest single, 殺手 (”The Killer” was the most sickening music video ever. Having seen a lot of weird and absolutely strange music videos, I didn’t really think that was possible. But I watched it via Miro, and I have to say, it truly is disgusting. I warn anyone who doesn’t usually watch horror movies, or hate horror movies to definitely not to watch it. Basically, in the MV, JJ Lin is a psychotic killer who was an infatuation with this certain girl, and has a sort of twisted love for her. He therefore kidnaps her, kills her, and dismembers her body and hangs all the body parts on the wall. It’s a dreadful video.

Maybe JJ Lin - is actually psychotic. The lyrics do seem to show that.
